Cedar Rapids: City Series

Our city series take a look at some of our favorite places to live and work in Iowa. Today’s city: Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids is known as the “City of Five Seasons” and is the second-largest city in Iowa.

Cedar Rapids is one of Iowa’s largest cities. It is located just 30 minutes north of Iowa City. According to the 2019 census, it has a population estimate of 131,127, coming in just below Des Moines. Many people commute between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, because they are so close. With the sheer size of the city, there are generally more housing options available and at a more affordable price point than the Iowa City area.

Cedar Rapids Attractions

Being a larger city, this means there is no shortage of places to go and things to do during any season! If you’re a sports fan, Cedar Rapids is home to the Kernels, a minor league baseball team. It is also home to the Rough Riders, a Tier 1 junior ice hockey team. Other staples of the city include a variety of unique restaurant options, multiple concert venues that bring in big names in entertainment, cultural and art museums, as well as historical venues, such as Brucemore Mansion.  In recent years an area known as the Czech Village/New Bohemia Main Street District has become extremely popular as well, with its many bars, restaurants, and shops. It’s also home to NewBo City Market, which houses many small, local businesses and start-ups.

We could go on and on sharing all that there is to do in this wonderful city! It’s no surprise that this is the second largest city in Iowa with all that it has to offer. Our favorite part is that it feels like a small, tightknit community while still providing plenty of things to do for all ages. It combines the best of both worlds in a unique and wonderful way.
